Absolutely adored it. As I said on another thread, I think the movie perfectly matches the language of play, way more than any other action movie I've seen. It's really sweet and straight-faced, without being dour or serious. I'm calling this as becoming a camp classic in the years to come.
It's the ridiculous heights that the movie achieves that make me love it so. Everything from robot fish to ice packs sinking, the way that nanomites can do anything and dye hair, or the just delicious Doctor/Cobra Commander. As a huge fan of the cartoon series (love the comics as literature, but my artistic sensibilities fall more towards the relentless, feckless creativity of the cartoon), this was in all seriousness everything I wanted a GI Joe film to be.
I'm still not pleased with Duke or Ripcord, but they help to accentuate the pure, childlike ingenuity of the movie in stark contrast. Again, special props to Levitt, Eccleston, and the wonderful people who played Storm Shadow, Baroness, and Zartan for understanding the kind of relentlessly fun movie they were in and chewing up the scenery like gifted termites at any scene. The Joes won't know what hit them, indeed.
