Working out the details of the Cobra organization. Here's what I have so far:
------------------------------------------
Start COBRA Organization Profile
------------------------------------------
Cobra Consolidated is a private military consulting firm founded in New York City, initially existing as a private security agency but quickly expanding into private military contracting and weapons research & development. The particular details of the company's origin are unclear, as well as the specifics of how they managed to quickly gain a foothold in the military consulting business. Corporate headquarters are located in downtown Manhattan. Current industry estimates place the total value of Cobra Consolidated's current contracts at just under $100 million. The company has consulting, training & procurement contracts with state-owned and privately-owned military and law enforcement agencies in the United States, the People's Republic of China, the United Kingdom, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Switzerland, Sudan, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Myanmar, Turkey, India, Pakistan, France, Italy, and Sri Lanka.
Cobra Consolidated, Inc. Is composed of three divisions:

End COBRA Organization Profile
------------------------------------------
notes:
- Cobra Commander isn't listed on the company roster because he works behind the scenes, away from the public eye and as far as the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Defense are concerned, he's more of an urban myth built around the company's anonymous founder. Only the senior executives know of his existence and of those, only a select few have actually had any personal contact with him.
- I tried to use characters' real names as much as possible. Since I'm writing the reference bible as if it were a government file, it would look pretty weird if there were a bunch of "unknowns" and "classifieds" working for a publicly known company. In cases where characters have no listed "real names" in any of their extant filecards, I adapted names from secondary sources or invented ones outright. Here's a list of those names and where I got them from:
- Alexander Phillips (Serpentor): derived from the names of two of the sources of Serpentor's genetic material in the comics: Alexander the Great and Phillip II of Macedon
- Vladimir Mijaimovic (General Mayhem): his name is listed as Vladimir Mayhemovski in the toy's filecard. Thought it sounded too goofy, and instead rewrote it as a real Slavic surname
- Damon Armstrong (Raptor): based on the first name of the Toronto Raptors' basketball team's first ever draft pick (
Damon
Stoudamire) and the surname of their first expansion draft pick (BJ
Armstrong
)
- Timothy Janes (Scrap-Iron): Scrap-Iron's false identity as a member of the Phoenix Guard in the DDP comics. Adapted it as his real name.
- Edward Johnson (Copperhead): Copperhead's false identity as a member of the Phoenix Guard in the DDP comics. Adapted it as his real name.
- Kenneth Leggitt (Wild Weasel): Wild Weasel's false identity as a member of the Phoenix Guard in the DDP comics. Adapted it as his real name.
- Robert Cobretti (Big Boa): Since Big Boa is the only remnant of the aborted Rocky Balboa GI Joe figure, I decided to play up those links. His name is derived from two characters popularized by actor Sylvester Stallone -- Robert "Rocky" Balboa (from 1976's "Rocky") and Marion Cobretti (from the 1986 movie "Cobra")
Will post images and filecard links for Destro, Baroness, Zartan, Zarana, and a number of other characters later tonight.
