First off I doubt that every Hisstank member would go out and buy a book like this when we are pretty much slaves to the digital age. We all have our eyes glued to screens for most of the day now instead of having our heads in a book. All of the info that this book would hold can be found right here at our fingertips. We can even search for exactly what we want to which would be quicker than trying to look it up in an index of a book and then flipping to that particular page.
As far as other Joe fans go who are not members of this site I highly doubt that they would buy a book like this when any search engine out there can find them what they want.
Now when it comes to books like Ultimate Guide to G.I. Joe 1982-1994 by Mark Bellomo, it's a whole other story.
These type of guide books are handy to bring with you to shows and such so that they can help you with your collection on the spot. They appeal to Joe fans everywhere, but I can even see books like this eventually being hurt by digital technology.
One day the internet and products used to view webpages on the go will be so cheap that most people will be able to afford them. Think about how expensive it was at one point to make a simple call on a celluar phone. Now it's so cheap that people are doing away with home phones and using their cell phones at all times instead. Have you needed a pay phone lately? Good luck trying to find one of those because they are pretty much unneccesary now.
I think books will eventually end up the way they did in Fahrenhiet 451.
On the other hand there was a cool book out that was similar to this "customs" idea that you had, only it dealt with tattoos. It was called "The Force In Flesh". I'm not sure how much it cost to make a book like this, or if it was profitable, but I thought it was a cool concept. Once again though I'm sure that all of the pic in that book could be found somewhere online.
The internet has pretty much ruined the need for "picture" books of this kind let alone books of any kind, including magazines and newspapers. There are some newspapers that have been in print for 100 years who are now going strictly to internet publications. They no longer wish apend the money to print their daily information on paper. This helps out their pockets as well as the environment, but it hurts the people who will loose their jobs over this change.
Sorry for rambling on and on there but I'm at work right now and bored as hell.
these are excellent points, but i wasnt saying for a profit just basically everyone who chipped in would get a copy for themselves like just to have it. i guess since you can find everything here on the tank in some sense it would be pointless but some of this stuff gets burried in the threads and gets forgotten about so basically i thought a book would be so cool to have of just like everything from 07 untill now. there have been some great customs on here and great tutorials, the book could have a index of all the members who made the customs, contests that were won, ext. just kinda like a recap of the tank for the last 2 yrs since the modern line came out. there could be funny quotes about scalpers and so forth, just all sorts of cool stuff. i guess it it easier said then done but i just thought it would be cool to have. almost like getting a year book in high school, kinda just to glance back and be like yeah i remeber that.
