This brings up the question as well as to what the difference is between a Ranger and an Airborne Ranger. My take is that the "Airborne Rangers" are part of the 75th and thus take pride using that title. I'm curious to know if guys who are not part of the 75th would even use that term. Even if they had both Ranger and Airborne School under their belts. It's part of the song.
Rangers:
Stalker(Vietnam Vet)
Snake-Eyes(Vietnam Vet)
Hawk
Claymore (Vietnam Vet)
Beachhead(although the Convention Beachhead is a SF Weapons Sgt now)
Tunnel-Rat (Based on his Grenada Experience)
Star-Duster(Explicitly states he enlisted in the Airborne Rangers)
Crazy-Legs (Airborne Ranger)
Repeater (Wears the tab on his lid)
Sneak-Peek (Legend in the Ranger Recon Battalions)
Skydive (Ranger School Instructor)
Crankcase (Due to SAS training which would not be available otherwise)
Sidetrack V2 (Because he was a wrestler, and he is listed as a Ranger)
Rampage(Served in the same Ranger Detachment as Beachhead)
Ranger School Grads only:
Clutch
Scarlett
Alpine
Lady Jaye
Free-Fall
Green Berets with Ranger School
Duke
Flint
LRRPs/Pathfinders (Probably 75th Rangers)
Recondo
Recoil
Pathfinders
Spirit (Vietnam Vet)
Wild-Bill (Vietnam Vet)
Outback
Muskrat (What purpose does a guy serve as a Jungle warfare guy if he isn't a Ranger)
Dart(Pathfinder)
Sidetrack V1
Crosshairs
Probably Ranger Qualified due to rank.
(My theory: career military soldiers go to Ranger School eventually)
Capt Grid-Iron
Rapid-Fire
Altitude
Airwave
Airborne (Six)
Col Courage
Crossfire
Double-Blast
I got nothing: (Should be Rangers)
Ambush
Spearhead
Rock'n'Roll
Grunt
Footloose
Ripcord
Airborne (Talltree)
Dusty
Roadblock (DDP)
Dial-Tone
Wreckage
Breaker
You certainly make mention of it, but Beach-Head should be listed as a Green Beret with a Ranger Tab like Duke and Flint... because once someone qualifies as Special Forces, it gives them a whole new MOS that is specific to the Special Forces Groups. In other words, once you're an 18 series, there are no slots outside of one of the Groups for an 18 series soldier.
As for the distinction between "Ranger" versus "Airborne Ranger" there is no distinction made in common parlance. If a soldier has a Ranger tab, that soldier must also be Airborne qualified, because Airborne school is a prerequisite for Ranger school - no exceptions. Usually, however, when a soldier is serving in the Ranger Regiment, it is often said, "He's in the Regiment" or "He served in the Regiment". No one needs to explain which regiment. The 75th Infantry Regiment carries such a mystique that it is often simply called "THE Regiment".
So to distinguish a Ranger who served in the Ranger Regiment, one would simply say, "Stalker and Sky Dive served in the Regiment". That would suffice. Everyone would understand.
