(Yard Dog in his prison guard uniform)
“Yard Dog” was once known as the toughest prison guard in all of Boggo Road Gaol, also known as the Brisbane Prison. He had a way of making even the toughest and meanest prisoner stay in check. Most of his tactics were very underhanded as he did not use the proper restraint techniques taught in the academy. Often times when a prisoner wanted to confront him for denying them privileges such as conge cal visits or phone calls he would come to the fight with hat ever he found laying around. He often would show up with a chain or a crow bar. Granted he was allowed to carry fire arms as a prison guard but wanted the prisoner to have a fair chance even if it meant they came with a shank.
Eventually he was reported to the supervisor of the prison by a family member of one of the incarcerated. However there was no evidence and no eye witnesses would speak against Yard Dog as they knew he would seek his revenge. Because of allegation Yard Dog was stuck with perimeter duty which meant driving a truck around the facility for 8 hours a day at no more than 10 miles per hour. Once that punishment was over he was allowed to come back to the yard but only during the grave yard shift where it would be near impossible for him to interact with the prisoners. Yard Dog soon became frustrated with this demotion in responsibilities and decided to become rogue.
During the grave yard shift he would check on those in solitary confinement. Many of these prisoners had a very violent reputation and were often in solitary confinement for fights and near riots with each other. Yard Dog convinced these guys to come together and fight as one against the system. He started a small gang in the prison composed of the toughest blokes he could find. As they rose in power and numbers he silently lead them to a full prison yard riot. This riot was a great distraction and during the melee he was able to lead those prisoners closest to him to their freedom.
(Yard Dog during the early years of the Dreadknoks.)
These men were comrades and defeated the system. “Yard Dog” started the charter chapter of the notorious Australian biker gang known as The Dreadknoks. The original Dreadknoks were about freedom, the open road, and the newly flavored fountain drink of grape soda. They were tough and defied authority. They were able to fund their rides through petty theft and the occasional bouncer job at a local watering station. Yard Dog and the early Dreadknoks lived life as they saw fit just getting by and staying under the radar of the law.
The times began to change and the new younger members coming into the Dreadknok fold were more concerned with money and living a good life with fancy bikes and better weapons. The over all feeling of freedom which was once part of the Dreadknoks was no where to be found. These young kids didn’t get what it meant to ride. Soon Yard Dog was beginning to feel the pressure of change and soon disappeared into the open road. This departure would lead to Zartan being able to come in as the leader and joining Cobra.
(Yard Dog now days)
Yard Dog is said to still be alive and riding the empty back roads of Australia. There have been sightings of him sitting at the end of dimly lit bars shaking his head in disgust as he watches the news casts reporting Cobra’s use of what was once his beloved Dreadknoks.
Sadly the only legacy he was able to leave was the name and love of grape soda.
