Yeah, I'm posting tonight because it calms me after a few hours of problem solving. Kind of therapeutic, you know? Anyways, on the work-in-progress...
I started the day kinda slow. I wasn't really sure what direction to move in first. Then I decided that it was time to check out the powergrab and make sure that stuff was worth the $4 a tube. It's supposed to be a foam adhesive. It's funny, because it says that at least one surface must be porous... hmmm? I guess in case you're gluing the foam to a wall? Who knows. So got the 'ol gun out...
I cut a small bead so I could control the substance. Did two types of bonds. First one was a cantilever:
And the second was an edge:
The glue seemed to stiffen up right away. It says you can move and replace the parts since the glue takes 24 hours to cure. I noticed a lot of stiffness after only 10-15 minutes. It probably takes less time than that. Chemical Engineers always add a factor of stupidity into their calculations. Anyways, I'll check it tomorrow afternoon and do a stress test to see how strong it is. Hopefully, the foam flexes before it releases. Since there are no dynamic forces at work on this model, flexing is enough. It means that static pressure will not overpower the joint. Of course, I'm building it in such a way that there's not a whole lot of suspended joints.
We'll see tomorrow.
