I’m all for the idea of action figures being done in honor of the United States newest branch of the armed forces. Even though Russia has previously tried and failed to do the same, it might be interesting to create some Russian Federation repaints of figures to pretend that somebody is going to try to keep up with the United States.
The posters for Chris’ project takes artistic license “to boldly go where no man has gone before” with a few misquotes.
It was Vladimir Komarov who commanded Voskhod 1, and piloted Soyuz 1, not Vladimir Putin. The misquote of Russian-American writer Ayn Rand’s character, Howard Roark, in the novel “The Fountainhead” is about after the dean expels him from architectural school for turning in a modern drawing when the assignment was to design a Renaissance villa. The dean asks, “Do you mean to tell me that you’re thinking seriously of building that way when and if you’re an architect?” and Roark says “Yes”. The dean asks, “My dear fellow, who will let you?” and Roark replies “That’s not the point. The point is, who will stop me?” The internet often butchers the lines and misquotes Ayn Rand.
The quote by Barack Obama is condensed, but fairly accurate. He wasn’t ever for Space Force (then the Air Force Space Command), but against it, based not on words, but implemented budgetary actions. I watched that speech as it was televised from the John F. Kennedy Space Center on April 15, 2010. In the speech he announced increasing funding by $6 billion, ending planned lunar missions, and moving NASA in the direction of robotic probes to explore the Sun’s atmosphere and Mars, and an advanced telescope.
He accurately envisioned in the speech that a future presidential administration will have to fix our economy first, and take mankind back out among the stars fifteen years in the future. Barack Obama said, “And by 2025, we expect new spacecraft designed for long journeys to allow us to begin the first-ever crewed missions beyond the Moon into deep space. So we’ll start -- we’ll start by sending astronauts to an asteroid for the first time in history. By the mid-2030s, I believe we can send humans to orbit Mars and return them safely to Earth. And a landing on Mars will follow. And I expect to be around to see it.”
The quote on the poster I agree with the most is “we must have American dominance in space”, said at the Pentagon Aug 9, 2018 by Vice President Mike Pence.
Edit: It appears that the quote by President Donald Trump is entirely correct after all. I had attributed it to a speech given by Vice President Pence, but on June 18, 2018 in the East Room of the White House President Trump said, “When it comes to defending America, it is not enough to merely have an American presence in space. We must have American dominance in space. So important.”
