If they were trying to reinvigorate it with Hasbroverse, then that is even more proof that the failure of Hasbroverse is the reason it is being axed. Otherwise it makes no sense. A new #1 in a new continuity will obviously sale in big numbers. Then the next few issues will still sale well, but numbers will drop with each subsequent issue. Probably somewhere between issue 10 and 20 the sales figures will be right back to where they are with the current series. Why bother? Just keep the continuity alive and boost sales with big stories like G.I. Joe did with the recent Dawn story arc. Until proven otherwise, I will continue to speculate TF was axed because of Hasbroverse, because nothing else makes sense.
TF has undergone various series launches and soft reboots with its various books over the past 13 years, its pretty common, usually get a sales boost but still, overall sales never would rebound to what it used to be, any sales boosts were very temporary. At some point, enough is enough and it's either you quit, or you relaunch. And IDW numbers were never reaching that of DC or Marvel, so any fluctuations were quite minor. Even the success of the Dawn arc for example in ARAH... was not impressive sales wise. For the series itself it was good, but compared to other comic books it was relatively slow seller despite IDW talking it up as a "big hit".
DC regularly does complete reboots of their universe pretty much to keep things selling, Marvel is resistant to it but still has soft reboots. The Hasbroverse if anything was a soft reboot and yes it failed. Did it kill Transformers? Possibly, sales wise though things didn't change a whole lot and the trends we saw, just doing soft reboots again were not gonna change much for the Transformers. Over 12 year run is huge for the likes of IDW, almost nothing of theirs last that long, but it's time to try again. Long continuity comics just don't work well in the market without huge sales numbers, IDW doesn't have that, and Transformers grew to be pretty bloated with so many different series, and convoluted timeline that jumped back and forth. They pretty much had zero ground to add new readers to the line as it was such a far gone series for them. I've read almost all of it from the beggining, and even I get confused at whats going on or when in time things happen cause of how many series they had
