So while the letters were likely just artistic renderings, they could be from Cobra's variation on Esperanto. Call it Coberanto!
Dunno about Scrap-Iron, but there seems to be a suggestion that Wild Weasel might be Rhodesian/Sarth Efrican, and Firefly is Vietnam-born French (possibly mixed French/Vietnamese ethnically as well, given the Larry Hama-penned "Backstabbed" comic from the Storm Shadow vs Firely 25th Anniversary 2-pack seems to depict the latter's long-lost sister with vaguely Asian features).
