I firmly agree. However, I believe that you can be held accountable to a degree for what you say. I'm not in favor of physical violence in response to someone's opinions, no matter how bad they are. Yes, that includes Nazis and Antifa. I believe that the beauty of free speech is that everyone has it, not just the assholes. Also, I believe the words of that drunken promiscuous midget that always pays his debts: "When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say."
However, let's also remember this- when you express yourself, you must be mindful of your 'uniform' or rather, in Aubrey's terms: What you represent. If Aubrey had said this on his personal Facebook page among his friends, or on an exclusively personal Twitter account for his friends and family- then it wouldn't be such a bit deal. However, he was 'in uniform' and advertising his work, and therefore wearing his company's name on his shirt.
If I put on my Army uniform and go out spewing vitriol in the public eye, I will be held accountable and punished under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. If I worked at Wal-Mart, Burger King, or any other business and I openly display my employment while saying things to piss off a large chunk of the population- I'm probably going to get fired. Because at that point, I stop speaking as 'Baron Samedi'- even if those are my personal opinion, I'm wearing that company name and I represent them to the public eye.
Mr. Aubrey is likely learning this lesson the hard way. Sadly, we've convinced even the most mediocre comic writers, game developers, and youtube personalities that they're all Rock Stars and we've inflated their egos. They believe themselves untouchable, staring down their noses at everyone who doesn't have the same 'status' and spewing anything they like right back at them. The internet has given everyone a voice- and these people didn't just suddenly become pieces of shit, they've been pieces of shit and now we can all see it because of Social Media.
I look at this page and I see very few people, but I see a lot of buying power. Some of you guys have more Joes on one SHELF than I do in my entire collection, and this is not a cheap hobby. Some of you spend more on comics in one weekend haul than I spend on clothing for an entire year. That's not a bad thing- more power to you, just as long as you're dealing with adult shit first. But that's POWER. The dollar is loud.
I don't care who's sitting behind the big desks on the top floor of Marvel or IDW or Ubisoft Headquarters. The man up there can be the most flamboyant and unhinged Social Justice Warrior. It doesn't matter. At the end of the day, what matters is what those dead Presidents and that one fat guy say- and their word is "Cha-Ching!". When those Dead Presidents stop coming because someone pissed off the fanbase, that corporate message starts to become a little less relevant and the staff starts to move around.
And since Aubrey's a self-proclaimed Socialist, he doesn't understand the most simple rule on the planet. Capitalism always wins. Every. Damned. Time.
