I read this and thought "I'm sure the Slugger made an appearance somewhere." It does: the invasion of Cobra Island in issue 76, BUT . . . it's driven by Tollbooth! It's also used as a point vehicle, which makes no sense. In fact, to get really wonkish, it didn't make any sense in the invasion of Cobra Island since the island is about 2.5km by 3.7km, and while I'm not sure of the exact minimum range of a 175mm howitzer, I'm pretty sure it's more than 3.7km. It would actually have made more sense for the Slugger to be a self-propelled 105mm howitzer (like M108
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M108_howitzer
or Abbot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FV433_Abbot_SPG
- see this post for the rationale behind 105mm guns:
Defence and Freedom: Battalion battlegroup organic indirect fire support
). That would also have given some logistical commonality with the mountain howitzer (
YOJOE.COM | Mountain Howitzer
).
Anyway, tangent ends.
