Thanks man, really appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the concept art and filecard stuff, but to be honest, those projects had me OD'ing on GI Joe. I had to take a step back from anything related to GI Joe for a couple of years because I actually started associating it with stress (it started to feel like work instead of a hobby).

Yep. You know me, though. I just keep going back and monkeying with the thing and have a hard time moving forward with the rest of the document. Charts and tables and such really trigger my obsessive-compulsive tendencies, I guess, ha ha.

Yeah, I know the twin O-3 arrangement looks weird, but I'm basing it on the master's thesis written by Philip E. Kapusta in 2000 for his MS in Leadership and Human Resource Development from the Naval Postgraduate School entitled "A Comparison of US Navy Sea-Air-Land (SEAL) Teams and US Army Special Forces" (Kapusta was an officer in the Navy at the time, I can't recall off the top of my head if he was a lieutenant or a lieutenant commander when he wrote the paper, but he did go on to serve on SOCCENT's joint strategic plans and policy staff during OEF and OIF not long after writing the paper, so he's a reputable source on these matters, I would think).
In the paper, he describes the SEAL platoon as being led by an experienced O-3 who is assisted by a junior officer who can range in grade from O-1 to O-3 (obviously, this second O-3 would be junior to the lead O-3 in terms of time-in-grade).
Anyway, I decided to make O-3 a hard requirement for the assistant team leader position in the notional Joint Special Operations Team structure, the reasoning being that a unit like GI Joe (which I propose resides in the same rarefied air as other Tier 1 organizations) would prefer to have mature individuals in critical leadership positions, while still allowing for the mentorship relationship that is implicitly involved when you've got a senior officer being assisted by a junior officer. Getting new blood is important, of course, but I think that has to be balanced against the need for experienced operators. I imagine that this O-3 requirement could be waived on a case-by-case basis, though, like say, if you've got an O-2E applying for the assistant team leader position.
