Sounds harsh, but I totally agree. These MISB vehicles are becoming so scarce because of this "open it and play with it!" sentiment.
As someone who absolutely loves G.I. Joe and the significance of it's history, I really hate seeing these opened. They are so old now that I think we really have to respect them as artifacts of a by-gone era.
The vintage MISB vehicle is basically like a time capsule from the 80's. The sad thing is, once you open it....it's too late. It's can't be un-opened. Sure, it may be great fun to open and assemble (I always loved that as a kid), but that means yet another of these rare, historic artifacts from that beloved era is gone forever.
I have a Persuader I bought MISB earlier this year. I was tempted to open it, but thought better of it. And man I'm glad I didn't. It feels good to look at my shelf and see that box sitting there in the same condition it did 22 years ago in the store. Some here would say..."yeah but you're just looking at a box". Well, to me there's more meaning behind it than that. Sure, I'm seeing a box, but I know there's an untouched, rare piece of history sitting there and I totally appreciate what it means to me and to the history of the 1980's GI Joe era. Even if I had a Cobra Rat MISB I wouldn't open it. It would just feel wrong to do that.
Preserve it man. Don't open it whatever you do. Just wait and eventually you'll find a loose one you'll be happy with. And as time goes by...trust me....You'll grow to appreciate the untouched MISB Avalanche more and more. If you open it, it's too late. That'll be yet another one lost forever. If for nothing else, just for nostalgia's sake and for the sake of knowing you have an item that is soooo rare and special.
A lot of people have loose Avalanches. Hardly anybody has a MISB Avalanche....but you do. If you open it, it's no longer all that special anymore. It's just another Avalanche. Sure it's complete, but it's just another Avalanche. But right now, YOU have an incredibly rare piece of history. I would really advise not spoiling what you have there....and what we all have as fans of GI Joe.....seriously.
