In ROC Zartan took his nanomite controller, so perhaps the one controlling SS was damaged/destroyed in the explosion?
Re. repairs, do we have a list of what the nanomites were able to repair injury-wise - they could do facial reconstruction, eject cobra venom, what else?
There are a fair few ways to explain Zartan's being killed by a sword (I don't even remember that part, will have to watch it again!), but basically a sword through the heart will do some pretty gross damage to the musculature, which they may not have the ability to repair due to its size/complexity. Another possibility is that they require oxygen to operate and repairing something as complex as a heart takes too long, and they run out of oxygen, etc. Blood loss is another option.
