I think this is why they made Doc a pacifist, because at one time he could have been a pacifist in the military.
That's pretty accurate. Army medics and Navy corpsmen didn't carry weapons in WWI. In WWII, Army medics in Europe were unarmed, and the Germans rarely singled them out as targets. In fact, there are many stories of medics on both side aiding each other's wounded. For Navy corpsmen serving in the Pacific, it was a different story. The Japanese often targeted them, as it lowered morale and, obviously, prevented the wounded from getting help. Corpsmen had to cover the Red Crosses on their helmets, remove their armbands, and arm themselves with .45s, at least. By Vietnam, medics and corpsmen were issued .45s, and later took M-16s from the wounded or dead. Some even carried grenades as a form of "preventative medicine". Also, they stopped wearing any identifying insignia. Of the two, I always thought it made more sense for Doc to be the pacifist. However, as stoked as I am to finally have a 30th Lifeline, I think the M4 is an odd choice to give him, since he has to carry his med kit in 1 hand and shoot the rifle with the other. I'll probably give mine a P90 PDW I got from Marauder John's.
