I think Crazylegs is one, too. The funny thing about Crazylegs' 1987 filecard is that Hama specifically points out that he's an "Airborne Ranger," which leads me to think that he was (consciously or unconsciously) referencing the Korean War-era ranger companies, which were the first Ranger units that were composed wholly of airborne-qualified rangers (prior to the Korean War, only select Ranger personnel were trained as paratroopers so being an Airborne Ranger carried a mystique beyond that even of "regular" Rangers). Also, from what I understand, back in the 1950s and 1960s, that was how they used to colloquially distinguish soldiers assigned to the ranger companies and the soldiers who were graduates of Ranger School but weren't actually assigned to a ranger unit (i.e., the "ranger rangers" were informally referred to as Airborne Rangers, whereas the Ranger School grads who weren't actually assigned to a ranger unit were called Rangers -- probably because calling them "Ranger-qualified" was not only unwieldy but also had a perceived slight deprecatory tone to it).

I think the nature of today's conflicts (vague lines, insurgents embedded in civilian populations, etc.) has made it a necessity that "regular" airborne infantry (like the 173rd Airborne) do a lot of the stuff that planners thought only Rangers were equipped to do (that is, fighting in counterterrorism actions in low-intensity conflicts, among other things). The 75th RR still does things that are unique to its operational capabilities, though. Recently declassified reports indicate that the 75th RR STB's Reconnaissance Company conducted a number of HALO/HAHO insertion recon, surveillance, and combat operations in Afghanistan between 2001 and 2009. It's certainly likely that the "regular" 75th RR battalions (non-STB) also conducted similar operations requiring the set of skills unique to the regiment, we just haven't heard about them.
