Then the other scene on page 162. He appears during the Rawhides Assault on the enterance of Cobra-La against the Dreadnoks. So far in those two appearances he really doesnt do anything significant that identifies him.
It may suggest that Riverboat might have been an early draft name for Lt Falcon, with those two references surviving the rewrites.
Yeah, Oliverbox, I can see "Riverboat" being a Marine, could he be your long awaited Marine Officer? His name is growing on me. I might just have to create him.
I do like the script better than the finished movie, seemed like for the movie they had to cut out alot of stuff and made most everyone 2-dimensional. But the script feels like a continuation of Sunbow. Lady Jaye and Flint, Wetsuit and Leatherneck has a few scenes together. Even Hector Ramerez makes a cameo. Also seeing Flint and Iceberg in Skyhawks with Lifeline flying a Tomahawk searching for Roadblocks unit would have been interesting. Tho maybe Flint should fly the Tomahawk and Lifeline fly the other Skyhawk would be easier to handle. The final battle would have been better with all those vehicles were being air-lifted by the helicopters to the Himalayas. Instead of what was shown in the movie, Hawk in a Snowcat, and everyone else as infantry. But then the movie would have been a 10-parter episode, instead of a 5-parter.
Those are all great ideas, and that would have been a lot cooler than what we got. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of scenes in the movie that I really enjoy, but I just wish the overall plot was better.
As for "Riverboat", it's a nice code name... and it does make me wonder what they envisioned for this character. There's no way to know for sure, but it seems like G.I. Joe was always updating certain specialties...
For example, Duke was a "leader" character and Special Forces.
Then we get "Flint" a year or so later, who was also a "leader" and Special Forces.
Stalker was a Ranger, then Beach-Head showed up as the team's new Ranger
Gung-Ho was the team's Marine, then Leatherneck showed up as the team's new Marine.
Torpedo was the team's original SEAL, and then Wet-Suit showed up.
You get the idea. I'm not telling you anything you don't already know.
But it does make me wonder what "specialty" they were trying to update on the team. And with a name like "Riverboat" it seems like a SEAL or a Marine would make sense... and perhaps he was even a Southerner and a gambler (like ACE). The Mississippi River has always been famous for Riverboats, so perhaps it's just wishful thinking that this character would have been from my neck of the woods.
In any case, I'm sort of envisioning a Southern gentleman, gambler type of character with a moustache and possibly a goatee... maybe even a cowboy hat and revolvers. I suppose that's just one take on the character, but I figure Navy or Marine Corps.
