This is my review of the Radio Man figure From Teika Toys as promised in this thread
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/toys/7...these-out.html
I bought him from Blacksheep Toys on E-Bay.
Packaging: 8/10
The figure comes on a good looking cardback which is simple and just shows the figure you bought. The Bubble is sturdy and the whole is very reminiscent of the SW and Joe packaging. On the Back of the card it shows the figures available as shown on Teika's site and hints on a mystery figure (no real surprise there, it's an asian toy after all)
Contents:
Figure
Removable knee Pad
Set of removable matching knee pad's
M4 Rifle
Removable Backpack
Removable Helmet
Removable Flak Jacket
Stand with one foot peg
Scale: 8/10
It's 1:18 and therefore slightly smaller than the current lines as these tend to be slightly out of scale at 4" for a 6' man instead of 3.75". I must note that it's actually hardly noticeable.
Accesories: 7/10
The gun feels kinda cheap even though the material is fine and that's simply due to its realism and scaling. When making my soldier grip his rifle I was constantly afraid of breaking either the scope or the barrel. Nothing happened though, but I was very cautious.
The flack jacket is nothing special and works like most current Joe vests. It's sturdy and I was more afraid of breaking the figure than tearing the flexible plastic jacket. This vest is apparently what makes this guy a radio man. On the vest are a sculpted antenna thingy and a sculpted phone horn.
The kneepads feel like rubber and are a hassle to get in place, but once they're there they stay in place nicely.
The Helmet is made of completely flexible rubbery plastic and fits very well. As an added bonus for vanilla posers and diorama builders the helmet fits in his left hand perfectly. So no need to screw up his grip of other accesories.
The Base is a simple disk with the company logo on the bottom, one peg on top and a somewhat grainy texture giving it a dessert sands feel.
Sculpt & Paint: 6/10
The sculpting and paint application is very vanilla, but detailed where details need to be. The clothing is creased in a realistic fashion. The gun is a scaled model that has some gun metal dry-brushing effects. The camo is bland but works. The head is probably the only downer. The sunglasses need a touch-up and his small patch of hair (a crew-cut apparently) Looks ridiculous. I think touching these things up with a non shiny acrylic paint will do the trick. But out of the box, they will not be to everyone's liking.
However if you leave his helmet on neither will bother you.
The head is on a ball joint, which is larger than the Joe joints, so we can forget about easy head swaps.
Articulation: 8/10
This is one heck of a good 1:18 soldier fig!!!!!
The articulation is similar to the 25th/ME/ROC figures with one unfortunate similarity, 2 nifty additions and 2 large differences.
Neck, Shoulders, elbows, Hip joints and ankles are exactly the same as Modern Joes and similarly sculpted to reduce visibility.
Here in also lays the unfortunate similarity, being restriction in elbow joint poseability. It's not nearly as bad as Duke though, you should think along the lines of version 1 snake eyes or cobra trooper.
Then come the differences. Th first being that the figure has a cut waist for 360 rotation but no upper torso joint.
Secondly the knees are like seen on a few test shots of newer sculpts and recent Star Wars figures. so they bend 90 degrees and can rotate at the joint.
Now for the best part: The wrists. The wrists you ask!? Yes!! The wrists. Of course the wrists are cut so that the hands can turn, but then comes the nifty addition: The right wrist can move vertically and the left moves horizontally. This is pure GENIUS.
This figure can look battle ready or sprinting, ducking, alertly resting etc in just the twist of a wrist. you have to play around with it to fully grasp it's GENIUS (especially in this scale).
All-in-All this is a line well worth of some collector attention and love, with a few minor detractors that need designer attention and strict QC.
Overall I rate this
7/10
