I'm not looking for our reality in Star Wars. I'm looking for Star Wars reality in Star Wars. I'm not saying I have a problem with some of the vehicles in the prequel trilogy because they wouldn't work if they existed in the real world. My problem is that they really have no practical purpose within the Star Wars universe aside for whatever scene they happen to be written for.
And I don't think the same is true for the original trilogy. Most of the gear in those movies look like they belong in that universe and could be used practically. The landspeeder is simply a teenage farmboy's car. Yes, to the viewer it's fantastical because it doesn't exist in our reality. But it looks right at home in the fictional universe on screen. A lot of the vehicles in the prequel trilogy, in my opinion, don't.
As for Cobra vehicles, I think we all realize it's a line for kids and that imagination plays a large part. But as the Joe line progressed, the vehicles went from reasonably realistic but still "out there" enough to be fun to totally impractical even by kids toyline standards.
