Weird weapon for a chaplain assistant, too, when you think about it. Although I never owned the figure as a kid, I liked the character because of how funny he was portrayed in the comics.

Hmmm. If it comes to kitbashes, I don't think there are any rules, design-wise. They can be true to ARAH or totally throw the old designs out the window, so long as the kitbasher is happy with it.
It's with the 25th/ME retail figures that I sometimes take issue with when it comes to design. I don't really mind if they make wholesale changes to characters (changing the gender and/or ethnicities of certain characters, changing their "specialties," etc.) as long as it's clear from the outset that these versions of certain characters belong to an interpretation of the property that's divorced from the original one (such as RoC, Resolute, PoC, etc.). But if Hasbro is going to label a particular figure as "25th Anniversary," I expect a certain level of faithfulness to the original ARAH design.
