For some reason, I've always seen Chuckles as more of a CID special agent than as a DIA or CIA core collector or Army counterintelligence special agent (which is how he's often portrayed in the comics). It almost seems like Hama's portrayal of Chuckles in the comics (particularly in GI Joe Special Missions) contradicts the stuff he wrote in Chuckles' filecard. There's nothing in the Marvel comics, as far as I can remember, that made me think he was ever acting in a CID capacity. He was always used in a counterintelligence/HUMINT role. Could be the whole CID thing was just a cover, or more likely, Hama wrote Chuckles as a CID guy in the filecard, but when he got to the point that he had to write him into the comic book, he found that he much preferred using him as a counterintelligence type of guy.
The thing about C.I.D. agents is that they get tasked out by Army Intel all the time. I spoke with an MP Captain recently, and he says the CID guys are always working with DIA or NSA or being tasked by Army Intel because their trained for all kinds of crazy stuff for undercover work.
Hama has said that Chuckles was officially a CID agent, but who knows where his career led him from there... and his file card seems to allude to connections to other intelligence agencies.
So I'm just saying that a file name like "Charles Provost: C.I.D. Agent" with a code name like 'Chuckles" is a pretty thin cover.
