There are many non-USSOCOM units that are airborne-qualified, receive just as much specialist training as their USSOCOM counterparts, and are in many ways special operations-capable.
Here's a list of the parachutist-capable non-USSOCOM units that I think are comparable to USSOCOM units in terms of specialist training rigor:
The 82nd Airborne Division's Long Range Surveillance Units (US Army)
The 20th Engineer Brigade's 27th and 37th Combat-Airborne Engineer Battalions (US Army)
Explosive Ordnance Disposal Groups One and Two (US Navy)
Marine Air-Ground Task Force Reconnaissance Units (USMC)
The 786th Security Forces Squadron and the 820th Security Forces Group (US Air Force): think of them as airborne-qualified SWAT teams
Zuludelta, I got to hand it to you. The amount of research you've done and the plethora of military information you've accumulated and organized is vastly helpful. You must have read an incredible number of books on the subject. Do you have a military background as well? Where do you acquire all of this stuff? I'd be particularly interested in learning more about the Army's Language School during the Vietnam era or the Defensive Language Institute as it's now known if you have any info or can provide some good links. I'm working on an extensive background bio for Duke and Stalker and was wondering if their initial MOS should have been translator-interpreter (04B) or if exceptional infantryman were sometimes given a chance to attend this school.
