So I was wondering, do any you guys put a lot of emphasis on specific skill sets when organizing your squads or fireteams? In other words do you always have a designated radio operator or comm specialist, a medic, an EOD or demo expert or combat engineer, an anti-armor specialist, a door breacher (via explosives, manually or computer aids), marksman or sniper, team leader or assistant team leaders, grenadier, armorer or mechanic, FAC or JTAC or FO, a silent weapons specialist, an interpreter, and a heavy weapons expert or machine gunner? Granted certain environmental insertions and scenarios may require certain training, like HALO and SCUBA, but it would seem that there are still certain fundamental skills that a team needs to be comprised of.
And do you have overlapping skill sets assigned? Should there be a backup radio operator in case the primary one is KIA? Should there be more than one person with language or medical skills in the group? Are there any special skills that most if not all the units in the squad should have, aside from basic combat proficiencies? For instance, it might be a good idea for all members of a four-man recon team to be proficient with communications equipment in case they are separated, and maybe each needs to know a lot more than just first aid, or if the mission requires a very high tech skill, like disabling a piece of enemy hardware, maybe they all need to know how to accomplish this in case only one makes it to the objective.
